Layoffs at my Work
Nov. 12th, 2004 02:11 pmMy boss just came and told me that 12 people in my building were being made redundant. Luckily I was NOT one of them. However, one of my teammates (on the Warehouse team) was not so lucky.
I went by myself to lunch at the little pub next door to work, even had chocolate cake for dessert, but I'm still a bit depressed. I really hate when this stuff happens. Also now I am the last programmer/analyst hired in my department (been here almost 4 years), so if there is another bout of layoffs, it could be me next time.
One of my best friends was laid off from her IT job last fall, took her like 6 months to get another job, and then one that made about 1/2 what she was making before.
Just feeling melancholy and worrying about things I have no control over,

I read an article in the Washington post about a couple in Ohio, I think, whose income has been cut in half and they are struggling to support their family and the husband is working part time delivering pizzas just to make ends meet AND they STILL voted for Bush b/c they are friggin' Xians!!! Just makes me want to go postal in the WalMart!
