Baby M Update
Nov. 1st, 2004 11:30 amReally nice Halloween weekend. Sunday was absolutely gorgeous and we spent it with darling husband at the Forge. Baby M ran around in her colonials and entertained everyone, she was such a good girl. And was a little ham for anyone that wanted to take her picture. With a big "CHEESE" when it was required.
And I love when she is so surprised at every thing, "Ohhh Waawaa" when she saw the creek. Like she never, ever saw water before - LOL. She just spent the day climbing up and down on chairs and logs. Running around in the leanto (is that how you spell it) giggling when the floorboards creaked. She also loved the wood shed, and the old broken chair - she kept saying "Uh Oh" everytime she'd run over to it. And don't forget the bearskin, everytime she saw it she had to say "Bear" and growl.
She loved picking up the leaves and giving them to people, plucking flowers and giving them away, and I even got pictures of her picking up the pumpkins in the garden. And trying to pick up pumpkins bigger than she is - he he. She loves the teenage girl that volunteers there, she is great with kids, and Baby M follows her everywhere. Mom of course, doesn't mind the break to just sit and watch for a few minutes.
And everyone that asked if I was taking her trick-or-treating last week. Nope, we didn't. If we got home earlier we would of, but we were having such a good time at the forge, we just stayed there until 8 o'clock. And does a (NOT quite) two year old really need all the sugar, candy and crap? NO!
Besides, she loves vegetables. Yes, my child is strange! But, she loved the squash stew, and the vegetable "gruel" soup cooked over the hearth. Crackers, juice and the home cooked veges and she was happy. I just really don't think they need all the crap at that age. And she only gets over to the forge every couple of months and always has a wonderful time and majorly wears herself out that by the time we load her up in the car. She is asleep before we hit the road (get out of the parking lot) and we just need to carry her up to bed when we get home.
And, the more information I get about TV, and diet and things that are bad for kids. The more I'm convinced home cooked meals, playing outside and playing with toys that require imagination rather than things that light up, talk to her, blink and make noises incessantly are so much better for her. And not having too much junk food, or too much TV is going to be so much better for her. And toys, at this age we really don't have to take any to the forge - she just plays with the sticks, leaves, plants, rocks and everything that is outside. Isn't that so much better?
I just take her little leather mug (she's really getting the hang of drinking out of an open cup), put diapers and wipes in the bottom of my basket and we're set for the day. But I did have toys in the car just incase - but we didn't even need them.
Kinda got a history lessson in Celtic & Pagan end of summer rituals yesterday too. Our fellow re-enactors, read some history information and explained some of the rituals to us. And did a simple candle lighting ceremony, with different colored candles, facing E, S, W & N and candles for different wishes and blessings. Reading about the significance of each, and what they meant. But unfortunately, just as Mitch was reading "Please repeat after me - " he got bit by a big mosquito and instead of reading the ceremony, ended up saying "Damn I just got bit by a mosquito", so that is mostly what I remember from the ceremony - he he...
And Saturday, made a big pot of chili, a potroast, and the kid helped me make a loaf of bread. She's great! She loved the potroast, loved the veges, and loved all the colonial vegetable dishes yesterday. She was just such a good little girl.

Date: 2004-11-01 07:37 pm (UTC)My kids love trick-or-treating (especially Jamie who is a sugar freak when he's allowed to be, he eats *everything*...just about... but I keep my fingers crossed that I can keep him having enough sense to limit the sugar, because it's hard for him. (Thankfully, Eliana-the-picky-eater-who-eats-like-a-bird has the sense to limit the sugar, though she'll be wishful at times. Praying it stays that way.) Even so, they'd both manage to pass it up if they had an opportunity to have fun doing something else, like that.
