Yesterday we had enough water in our water heater for baths (not enough pressure for showers). But this morning we just had dribbles out our faucets on the 2nd floor. - so we haven't started to stink just yet...

Faucets Running Again In Baltimore County
Thursday, March 18, 2004

Most residents of northwest Baltimore County who lost their water because of water main problems found the service restored last evening. (but not us) Up to 200,000 customers lost water when two major lines broke on Tuesday night. The outage closed more than 30 schools in the northwest suburbs.

Parts of Reisterstown were without water early this morning because of higher elevations. (we of course live there) Those residents should have water by morning. (sure as hell hope so) The failures were caused by wear and tear under the strain of two harsh winters in a row.

Baltimore County Water Woes
Wednesday, March 17, 2004

A water main break, followed in rapid succession by the failure of another, has left about 200,000 cutomers without water in northwestern Baltimore County. Many public schools closed after building principals and staff arrived at school and discovered there was no water. The affected areas include Owings Mills, Randallstown, Woodlawn, Catonsville and Pikesville.

Officials with the Department of Public Works say the outage started when crews were repairing a water main at the Reisterstown Road pumping station. Spokesman Kurt Kocher told WBAL News the outage began with a break in a 36-inch main. When crews shifted the water supply to a parallel 54-inch pipe, that one failed too. He said crews were have been working today to fix the water main. They hope to have full water service restored by 9pm. (yeah right - ha ha)

Just hope we have water tonight - or it is off to the MIL for showers and baths. And I still have BabyM's yack fest (clothes and cloak, etc.) to wash from yesterday's St. Patty's fiasco.

It isn't just the big water mains. My kids' elementary school had a large pipe break in the middle of lunch.... thankfully down one of the two halls from that door, and they *could* go around (*many* travels through the media center, the long way around)... and the carpet that slowed the flow by soaking it up and slowing it to form a big, deeper than most shoe soles puddle (thankfully) has, as of two days later been almost entirely dried out (pulled up and dried under as well), so with any luck it'll be ok and not have to be replaced or get icky.

Good luck on them getting the water back *soon*!
