dropped off Baby M at daycare and before I left, her bestest friend had come over and bit her on the shoulder. I was filling out her daily paperwork when I hear her screaming.

I wasn't too upset since Baby M went through a phase like this about 9 mos. ago. I helped the teacher and went and got an ice pack for my little one, and sat with her, read her stories, and held her until she felt better - her friend had bit her shoulder and left a nice little mark.

And in the meantime the teacher corrected the other girl, put her in timeout, and afterwards talked to her and explained to her what she did was wrong, etc. etc. And I feel bad for this little girl's mom, 'cause we had been talking last week and she said her daughter was going thru a really difficult stage, biting, hitting, acting out, etc. and she told me her oldest daughter was never like that.

Anyway just sharing - and BTW at what age do they really start to outgrow this? Or is the next stage just worse? LOL

They grow out of it when they start to be able to express themselves with their words and they feel that they are bveing heard and they can affect the outcomes that way... this means that they also have backsliding when they are feeling frustrated, and the more words they know and the more secure they feel, the quicker they grow out of it... but it also varies according to temperament.

Alchemy?

She grew out of it at around 11. She is now 11.5.
What she did was have tissy fits all the time!
It was soo stressful.
Sometimes she still has them, but, for the most part, she is turning into a nice young lady.

She just wrote a 2500 word paper on the history of email for a contest sponsored by the Univ. of MD. While she didn't win, her scores were perfect. This with only a minimal amount of help from me as an editor! :-)
