Death of a child

A friend I've known since kindergarten called me today. His daughter died suddenly the end of last week. She was sick one day, she collapsed the next, they took her to the hospital and she was declared brain dead the next day. They only know she had swelling of the brain. They don't know what caused it yet - they are waiting for the autopsy. She was only 14 years old, her 15th birthday is this month.

What a horrible thing to have happen. And what do you say to someone when this occurs?
