Wegmans "Hunt Valley" Recap
Oct. 17th, 2005 05:38 pmNot as wonderful as I was hoping for but very nice. It has a huge section for already cooked food and a restaurant and you can buy hot cookies fresh from the oven, and hundreds of kinds of cheese. But..
We couldn't find peppercorn Ramano which Dave usually gets at Whole Foods. And I still think we'll still need at least a semi-yearly "Whole Foods" trip. Even though Wegmans had a big Organic Section, Whole Foods is "The Organic Grocer" hands down.
And the British and European sections though nice didn't have everything. I think we'll still need to visit Shepard's Pies of Scotland in Timonium for my Scottish meatpies, Haggis, Scones and Walker's Crisps. But Wegmans had the strawberry clotted cream, and the lemon marmalade, and some other things we like.
And the Jewish/Russian grocery store "Ever Fresh" just down the street for us has them beat for the truly Eastern European, Israel, Greek special foods. You know the dried fish with the heads, feta - yes what country would you like it from? You would like polish brine pickles? And the labels are all in Russian, Greek, Hebrew, etc. and not translated. And, Wow!!! the desserts in the European grocer are like out of this world! However, you don't know what they are you just find what looks good and grab one and so many have the dark chocolate and booze in them too.
I checked out the Wegmans chocolates too. And the Jewish/Russian grocery does really have a better selection of the European chocolates. You know just for the holidays.
And Wegman's photo department had bring in any photo and you can get a "color" afghan/throw made. So we're thinking MIL gets a great color "Santa Helper" afghan.
So within 30 minutes we can get almost everything we need between all these great speciality stores and the mega-deluxe super-huge Wegmans that has almost everything but NOTquite everything.
